Treatment-Resistant?

Behind Treatment-Resistant Neurologic and Psychiatric Symptoms
As many as 60% of patients worldwide with neurologic, psychiatric and behavioral disorders do not respond to standard treatments, such as psychotropic and anti-seizure medications.
Many treatment-resistant patients have tried multiple medications and therapies with minimal or no improvement. Or, treatment worsened their symptoms.
If this sounds familiar — there may be other underlying causes worth exploring.
You are not alone
There is hope!
Even when treatments haven’t worked. Even when answers feel out of reach. There are still paths forward.
More and more research is showing that treatment-resistant neuropsychiatric symptoms can be caused by an autoimmune dysfunction – a condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the brain.
When identified and treated, symptoms can often improve dramatically — and sometimes disappear completely. The earlier it’s caught, the better the outcome.

Testing brings answers.

Targeting Root Causes
Of Chronic Neuropsychiatric Illnesses
In recent years, new insights have shifted the focus of care from simply managing symptoms to identifying and treating the underlying biological root causes of neurologic and/or psychiatric symptoms — especially in cases where conventional treatments have failed.
Addressing an immune-mediated root cause of treatment-resistant symptoms is critical because therapy targets the underlying immune dysfunction — not just the surface-level symptoms.

Not Just Managing Symptoms
Dr. Shimasaki reviews the various neurologic, psychiatric and behavioral disorders that are diagnosed and treated based on symptoms, rather than the underlying biological cause.
Autoimmune Encephalopathy
When the Immune System Targets the Brain
In some cases, infections can trigger an autoimmune response, resulting in neurologic and psychiatric symptoms. The immune system, which normally defends the body against foreign invaders, mistakenly attacks the brain’s own cells.
When this occurs, patients can develop a type of autoimmune encephalitis that targets the basal ganglia – a region of the brain responsible for motor control, cognition, and emotional regulation. This attack can lead to treatment-resistant neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Could this be happening to you?
The Autoimmune Brain Panel™ is the only test of its kind that assists clinicians in determining whether a patient’s neurologic and/or psychiatric symptoms may be due to a treatable autoimmune dysfunction, triggered by infection(s).
Testing is simple. And involves a single blood draw.
For many, results are life-changing
